Designed by Malibu based architects Studio PCH with Honolulu based WCIT Architecture as architect of record, Nobu Honolulu has relocated its Waikiki property to the ground level of the 37 floor ultra-luxury residential Waiea Tower at Ward Village.
An expansive curtain wall extends the entire length of the restaurant to provide guests and the public the opportunity to experience the progression of the restaurant as it blurs the lines of outside and in. Guests are invited to follow from the welcoming lanai and outdoor bar through the dining room and ultimately to the sushi bar and Nobu signature open kitchen. The atmosphere is at once lively and intimate.
The materials and details, in keeping with the Nobu tradition, marry a modern Japanese aesthetic with local Hawaiian accents. The double height ceilings are defined by undulating light wood slat ceilings that guide the guests through the space. Walls are clad in traditional Japanese shou sugi ban or charred wood that evokes sculptural Hawaiian lava flows.
Honolulu is one of the few Nobu locations to provide teppanyaki, an exclusive and rare experience where guests dine with the chef as he provides a private tasting menu for eight. It is always a memorable theatrical performance.
